Hey Queen Friend! Happy Wednesday! I hope you are doing well and having a great week. My week is going well but I am TIRED chile!
As you are aware, we are well into the holiday season and it's exhausting!
This year for many, if not all of us has proven to be a whirlwind filled with many unexpected twists and turns. Understatement! For the past 8 or 9 months we have been inundated with the news of tragedy and the call to action to do more and fight for justice of our fellow citizens. Not just social and racial injustice but health injustice has been on the line as well. Anyway, that's another post for another day. Let's talk about it!
So back to exhaustion, this year has been just that, exhausting. For us all, in so many ways. For me, one of my saving graces has been drinking coffee. It keeps me going and I love all of the warm variations of flavor Starbucks and others come up with! #notsponsored :)
I don't know about you but a warm cup of coffee always makes things a little easier to manage and just puts me in an overall good mood. I spoke about this in a recent episode of Coffee and Conversations (coming soon to Beneath the Crown TV). We spoke about how with coffee there is a balance of bitter and sweet and how life is much like a cup of coffee.
In my exhaustion and yours too, it's probably difficult at times to carve out time for yourself. You may only have a single moment in your day to make your coffee and enjoy it before the days jumps off to a fast paced never ending cycle of lists and obligations.
But for a moment if you will, think about what you put in your coffee cup. Sugar, maybe cream, or maybe you go for the gusto and put whipped cream AND flavored syrup! (SMILE) Whatever that sweetness is, you are sure to put SOMETHING sweet into your coffee.
Life is much like that cup; it's bitter and sometimes sometimes sour. It's imperative to pour something sweet or favorable into the cup in order for you to experience optimal enjoyment. Life is the same way and this season of life is the same way. I have a friend who said to me "Latina, you can't pour from an empty cup." It's true!
So simply put, find your rest during this busy holiday season. Try not to allow the busyness of this season to totally exhaust you and drain all of the life out of you. Be okay with saying "no" to people and things that seek to drain the general goodness from your life or your time. Get comfortable saying "yes" to yourself and not feeling guilty for thinking about yourself during this season.
And MOST of all, remember WHY we celebrate this holiday season. It's not about the presents but about presence. But we can't be fully present if we don't fill up our own cups first. So however that looks for YOU, do THAT Queen Friend!
