Keep Hope Alive: A Reflection on Legacy and Loss

I’ve been reflecting all day — watching videos, photos, and memorials that carry the weight of today’s loss. I couldn’t quite shake the eerie feeling sitting in the pit of my stomach… and then it hit me.
In a time that sometimes feels like society is moving backward, I’m reminded of the life and legacy of Jesse Jackson — a man who helped propel us forward. He taught us to believe in ourselves. To dream. To know. To be. To be exactly who we were placed on this earth to be: agents of change, agents of justice, agents of hope.
As I continued to reflect, I recognized that feeling for what it was — grief. Grief — the reminder that someone precious has left us physically and joined our ancestors.
In the days ahead, I find myself holding tightly to hope. Hoping for better days. Hoping for change. Hoping that the good he fought for will not be undone, but continued.
I write this with gratitude. Having had the opportunity to share time and space with this great man was both an honor and a privilege.
Rest well, Reverend Jesse Jackson.
Keep hope alive.
Love,
Latina
